Biography

Frances Barrett – BSc Hons (first Class) Respiratory, RN, Long Term Conditions Diplomas, RSF Spirometry Trainer, Level 4 teaching certificate, CPR, Defibrillation, first aid at work trainer and NIAS Community First Responder trainer and volunteer.

Frances has accrued over 30 years’ experience within the healthcare sector – having worked initially as a long-term conditions’ nurse specialist in General Practice for over 15 years, then as the community based pulmonary rehabilitation lead for the Southern (Board) Trust.

She is an Associate Lecturer in both the University of Ulster and QUB on the specialist practice.

Frances is on the PCRS service development committee and Asthma Right Care (ARC) group.

In June 2016 Frances partnered with a colleague Carole McGrath to jointly project manage the Northern ICP LES COPD project and after successfully developing and delivering bespoke COPD education and mentorship for HCPs across General Practice decided to create their own training and mentorship company “Barrett & McGrath Education and Mentoring Services Ltd. offering bespoke education, training, facilitation and mentorship to General Practice and beyond, and to date over 2500 Healthcare Professionals have successfully completed asthma, COPD, Spirometry, Inhaled therapies and devices, Chest Examination auscultation courses.

In April 2022 Frances piloted a bespoke Respiratory diagnostic and assessment hub in Belfast as a test of concept to be fully evaluated and written up after the yearlong project – this project attracted significant interest from across the province and a number of similar Hubs have been established on the back of this pilot.
