What’s coming in 2024?

We’ve looked at the topics our nursing audience has requested and have made predictions for what you can expect from our 2024 events. So carry on reading for our 2024 predictions for UK nurses.

This year our hot topics included:

Smoking vs. Vaping, Sexual Health and HIV, vaccinating different populations, Long Covid – a patient’s perspective, making contraception accessible for all, the return of travel vaccinations, effective wound care for each patient, supporting adolescents in mental health, asthma care, COPD diagnosis and still breathless, Comprehensive Kidney Care and Diabetes in Children.

2024 Predictions for UK Nurses – Has much changed? Do we need new topics on the agenda?

The answer is both yes and no, we know that some topics require updates and it’s important to re-affirm your knowledge in the areas you work within the most, but also, it’s important to learn something new.

So, what will we be recovering?

As ever we’ll make sure we provide updates on Asthma, COPD and Diabetes. In addition we’ll also make sure that women’s health is represented, this can be anything from menopause to cervical screening. Mental health is another important one and we’ll begin to explore this in more detail, breaking it down by specific conditions.

What’s new?

It’s always hard to predict what will be new in the world of medicine, but it’s our responsibility to stay aware and responsive to new developments. We regularly check news outlets, published papers and NICE guidance to help us deliver the most relevant content.

This year we’re expecting that the combination of the covid-19 and flu vaccine will be an area of interest for not only our immunology nurses, but also for those within the respiratory field. Some NICE topics could include:

  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Digital technologies for COPD
  • Managing symptoms of psychosis to prevent relapse
  • Digitally enabled weight management programmes
  • Falls: assessment and prevention in older people
  • Non-melanoma skin cancer
  • Harmful gambling
  • Maternal and child nutrition

New topics requested by you that we plan to cover:

  • Telephone triage
  • Epilepsy
  • Sleep – as part of our respiratory events
  • Vaping in young people

We’ll continue to take topic suggestions following every event, so don’t worry there will be more!
